Uaxactun sculpture

Q 6,357.00

This is a Jadeite jade replica of a figure found in Uaxactún, Northern Guatemala, under a Mayan palace constructed around 400 AD. However, by some of its traits, we know that it must be several centuries older. The rectangular eyes, the shape of the eyebrows and other features evoke Olmec tradition. The eyes certainly had shell or jade incrustations.
The whole appearance of the figure is that of a priest. It has been speculated that it could actually represent the sun god itself. If this were the case, it would be one of the earliest representations of this God.
The replica dimensions are Width: 7.5 cms; Height: 17.5 cms and Depth: 6 cms.
