OUR HISTORY
For over 48 years, Casa del Jade has been Guatemala's pioneer in reviving the precious legacy of Mesoamerican Jade.
A dream takes Root...
In 1977, our founder Gerald Leech opened the doors of Casa del Jade in the heart of Antigua Guatemala with a simple yet powerful vision: to bring the invaluable Mayan jade tradition back to life. What started as a small exhibition of jade crafts and jewelry quickly grew into something extraordinary.
Building on Heritage...
Through decades of perseverance weathering economic challenges in the 1980s and emerging stronger each time we remained committed to our craft and our community. In 1998, we found our permanent home in the beautifully restored “Casa Antigua El Jaulón,” a 16th-century colonial residence and the only privately restored monument in Antigua.
Sharing our Passion
Our commitment to preserving jade’s cultural legacy led us to open the Mesoamerican Jade Museum in 2003, offering visitors the chance to appreciate magnificent reproductions of archaeological treasures. In 2008, we hosted the first International Jade Convention, bringing together renowned archaeologists and opening our doors to the public.
In 2019, we opened our Jade Workshop, inviting visitors to witness firsthand the artistry and craftsmanship behind each piece. This transparent approach allows guests to see our master artisans transform raw jade into extraordinary works of art, connecting them directly to the ancient traditions we preserve.
Expanding our Reach
In 2023, we embarked on an exciting new chapter by opening our second location in Zone 10 of Guatemala City. This expansion allows us to bring the beauty of Guatemalan jade to more people while maintaining the same excellence and personalized service that has defined us for decades.
Today & Beyond...
As a Christian family business, Casa del Jade now supports more than 80 families and continues to showcase Guatemalan jade on international fashion runways. We survived a global pandemic and emerged stronger, with two beautiful locations ready to share the beauty of our national gem with the world.
